Yeah, I don't mind the gmail adds either, and will follow them sometimes. I had someone once tell me that they had changed their e-mail because they couldn't stand gmails invasion of their privacy by basing the adds off the content of their e-mails. I was kind of o_O over it, because if you think you have privacy over any of your e-mails you're sadly mistaken. At least this way you're getting ads that might actually appeal to you.
I have a paid account over here, but over on Insane Journal I have an account that isn't paid, and it amuses me to no end that 50% of the time the adds I get are for Queer as Folk jewelry, even though the account has nothing to do with QaF (I use it for Numb3rs and SGA stuff). :P
