Hopefully, it'll turn out to be something like "Woolsey is the official contact for the IOA and thus 'in charge' in that sense, but not in charge of military and scientific endeavors, effectively leaving Sheppard and McKay to handle that stuff." Well it sounds like he'll be taking over for Carter, so I'm not holding out much hope for that.
Wishful thinking, perhaps. :-p I've always liked Picardo as an actor, but I don't want a whole season of head-butting before anything can get done-ness. That gets old really, really fast (ref: Caldwell at start of season 2). I actually like Picardo too, and I kind of like Woolsey as a character, but you're right, if he's in charge there's going to be a lot more head-butting. All I can think of actually is the season 3 opener when all that shit was going down, and the IOA called Weir back to Earth, forcing her to abandon her post when she was needed most. That's how the IOA works, and that's definitely how Woolsey works. I'm sure his character will develop quickly, but it drives me crazy that there will be, and has been, so much focus on new characters, when character changes was the *last* thing SGA needed. For all the faults of the show, the team dynamic was never one I complained about (nor heard very many others complain about) until they started killing people off left, right, and centre. Now there are those who miss characters like Carson and Weir (Ford too, but not as many) and who hate the new characters of Carter and Keller. Even if the feeling isn't so strong as hate, an awful lot of people are less than happy with the changes. I personally never had a great love for Weir, but I find myself missing her now she's gone. And even though I never was actually able to hate Carter on SGA, I still feel nothing for her, actually, she's played such a small part in the show this season it's pretty much impossible to feel anything for her, since she hasn't really *done* anything. Keller, on the other hand I hate. I hate her because she replace Carson, but I would have disliked her regardless, because she's such a flat character. The only time we get anything more from her is when she's being annoying. I've heard a few people express interest in the idea of the Keller/Ronon romance, but other than that it's mostly been disappointment in her character.
