Especially if they were using planetary gates. It's one thing if you're just using space gates, set in the middle of nowhere (although, there *are* other people with space ships), but just because a planet is uninhabited *now* doesn't mean it's going to *stay* that way. Anyone has the power to gate to a planet, and they're going to find it weird that the stargate just randomly activates a couple times a week.
