You know, after you made this comment, I stopped to think of any other local bands. Alannis Morisette is from my home town, Brian Adams is from the same area as The Hip. Celine Dion is nearish, but from another province. One of the Blues Brother's lives nearby, but I can't really think of any other big names from our area. Unless we count all of Canada as my area :P
