Vidding Woes

So, I know I've already freaked out about my Big Bang vid (due in 2 weeks!) but now there's some more freak out to add.

My *gandmother* asked me to make a vid for her. I found out this week, and it turns out my mom was hoping I'd have it done today. I only had a chance to start yesterday. *headdesk*

And to make matters extra special, I've discovered that none of the movie making programs on my computer are working. Not even WMM! You know I had to be desperate to check out WMM.

A few weeks ago I was doing a clean up of my computer and uninstalled a bunch of programs I never use, and I'm slightly afraid I uninstalled some important codec. Because while I can import stuff into Adobe, and can watch the clips in it, the minute I try and put said clip on the timeline it goes black and mute. Vegas and WMM just plain aren't letting me import anything.

*panics*

I thought at first it might have been because I've started a new way of ripping my DVDs, but no, doing it the old way doesn't work either.

Since I was concerned about the codec thing, I uninstalled and reinstalled both programs. No joy.

I don't know what to do in the long run (OMG Big Bang!) but for the short term I've installed Vegas on my mom's computer (I can't install Adobe because I have an older version and it only works on XP).

The thing is, I've never really used Vegas for a whole vid. I don't really know how and don't find it all that intuative. Does anyone know of any good intro tutorials? I'm using Vegas 8.
I can't even figure out how to stretch a clip. :S
