They're there to make money, one day fandom will find a new platform that they like using more and people will migrate away. Some will stay but SUP or whomever is in charge at the time will decided that blogging has become dated, people are on to the next new thing and LJ just isn't worth their money anymore. Geocities is only the most recent case of this type of thing happening. It's happened before and will happen again.
