You know you're in China when....

The Chinese are a bit obsessed with tea. I don't really like tea, but I've learned to drink it, because where ever you go, they make you a cup. Hell half the times in restaurants instead of a free glass of water you get a pot of tea. When my uncle came to visit we stopped at a Hagen Das (most expensive ice cream *ever*), and he was a bit disgusted to see that they had tea flavoured ice cream. I was really bother by the fact that Roy our Chinese guide ordered it!

I think it's going just a bit too far though, when you can get tea flavoured tooth paste!!!

I'm soooo glad I brought tooth past from home. It's lasted me up to now, but with one month to go, I finally ran out. Last time I bought a tooth brush it came with a free tube of tooth past; lemon flavoured. I used it this morning, it seemed a bit familiar to me. As I was brushing I kept thinking of summer... and mosquitoes. About half way through, I realized that I was brushing my teeth with a tooth paste version of a citronella candle!

So today [livejournal.com profile] raxhel and I went to the store to get some new tooth past. They had an entire *wall* of it, but nothing I wanted to put in my mouth. We finally narrowed it down to 3 choices, one that we were pretty sure was mint, but in a huge double package (we only have a month to go), one with summer flowers on it, and one with, what I thought was spearmint leaves. We vitoed to double pack, and I refused to get something with summer flowers on the box, so yes we ended up with not-so-much-spearmint-but-really-tea tooth paste.

Oh *god* I just made a post about *tooth paste*

I've got to get back to Canada...

Well...

I thought I'd join everyone's buzz about the new Harry Potter movie. (no spoilers)

I can honestly say I will never be able to watch that movie without laughing my ass off. The first details I heard were from [livejournal.com profile] mistful's mocking reveiw. And then I watched the movie it's self.

For those of you who don't remember, I'm in China, so it's not like I can just go to the local theater. I've tried downloading it, but couldn't, so yesterday I went to my local DVD store and bought it. Now most of the American movies and TV shows are in English with Chinese subs, well Harry Potter is apperantly better then that, it actually get dubbed. At first Sara and I were pissed that we couldn't watch it, but after some fiddling around, we realised that it had English subs... Well for the most part.

-First of all, half the time Harry was called "The Harry"
-Ron was called Loa (or something like that) and often had Boon after it....
-Serius was called "Little Dog Star"
-and Hargid was "Sea Scape"

There were also some lovely examples of Chinglish throughout. I'm going to see if I can rip the DVD, you honestly can't grasp how funny this is without seeing it yourself. :P

Little bit of an Sos

Hey Everyone!
I was wondering if you could help me.....

As you may or may not know, I'm in China teaching English. My original job was teaching at a kindergarden, but last week Sara and I took on a second job at a high school.

The kindergarden is easy for lesson plans, we just play games and flash cards type stuff, and there's a book to follow. But the high school requires more planning. I thought it would be fun if I got a short story and asked them questions about it, but I'm having issues finding an apropriate story, so I was wondering if anyone out there could give a suggestion.

It can really be anything, something you've written something you've read. Just an LJ post, a fanfic, or an actual short story. I wouldn't want it any longer then 2 pages, but one page would be nicer.

The students are kind of inbetween topics at the moment, so the story could be about either:
1) "Growing pains" -ie, kids/teens not seeing eye to eye with their parents. (Why does all QaF fic with this theme, have to be about Justin's Dad? Those are just to extreme here... *sigh*)
2) "Looking good, feeling good"- ummm, I suppose going with a sports story would be the best. A story about how someone really likes sports, and how it makes them happy and healthy....

The high school kids have good English, so it can be written "normally" although if it gets abstract then maybe that shouldn't be rec'ed.

Any help at all would be great!!!
I've been googling it for hours now, but I'm just not coming up with anything.

QaF in China

Well last night Sara and I went for a walk down the street behind our apartment in the hopes of finding food (never an easy thing to do when the menu's are in Chinese and the most English you can expect is a friendly "Hello"), but on the way there we passed a DVD shop and thought we'd stop and take a look at what they had.

Most of the movies there were either in English or German with Chinese subtitles, so it's pretty easy to get English movies over here. When you walked in though there was an entire wall with box sets of shows, and guess what was right there to the right? Season *5* of QaF. I was a bit confused at first, because all of the big writing on it is in Chinese, and on the back they had pics from season 4 and 5, but then Sara noticed on the front in smallish writing, Season 5.

I really wasn't sure how it could be out since it's not out yet in North America, but I figured someone might have gotten their hands on it and started selling it here in China, and honestly for 45 yuan, I was willing to take the risk that it'd be in Chinese, so I bought it.

The quality of the eps are pretty good, although they all have that little summary of what heppened at the end of the last ep, which made me start to think that this might be boot legged, but what really gave that fact away was the last disk: The disk with the extra features.

The first extra feature is an interview with Peter and Scott, I havn't watched all of it yet, but they were just talking about random stuff (the topics I saw were aliteration and the secret romance between Ted and Justin). But the rest of the special features were all vids. They had:

-[livejournal.com profile] sisabet's 66
-Aida's Defying Gravity
-[livejournal.com profile] f1renze's Fresh Feeling
-It's is a Pig, which is a Gale Randy vid, I can't quite remember who made it, but it was signed "for Rachelface"
-[livejournal.com profile] kitkatbyte's Juliet
-Poem_Sunshine-noname which is one I hadn't actually seen before....

I suppose to be somewhat fair, they didn't doctor the vids at all, and left everyone's signature on it, if there was one to begin with. Still I don't know if some of these vidders will appreciate this, I think *I* would be flattered, but that's just me.

It also kind of gets me, because I wonder if this person who basically stole the episodes might have possibly have gotten them from my site. I mean that sooo wasn't my intention when I made the group, but I could see people misusing it that way...
