Catching up
OK, I've been meaning to post for days, but am finally sitting down to do it.
Now that I've gotten my near death experience out of the way, back to your regularly scheduled fandom stuff.
-Real Life Meme: So I tried calling
anoel on... Tuesday? But I only got her answering machine. :( I didn't want to leave a message since it sounded like it was a family machine, and wouldn't it be weird going "Hi! It's Paraka, you know, from the internetz" I almost gave up there, because I was kind of nervous about the whole thing (what if we had nothing to talk about!?) but decided to give it another try before I lost my nerve.
maekala was next on my list, but she mentioned she'd be out that night. So I tried calling
laii and got *her* VM. I was just about to leave a message, because unlike
anoel it sounded like it was just
laii's voice mail, when I got a beep indicating that someone was calling me.
I decided to answer the beep instead of leaving a message. The conversation when like this:
Person: Did someone there just call me?
paraka: Umm, I'm not sure. Is this *insert
anoel real name*?
Person: No.
*pause*
paraka: Is this *insert
laiis real name*?
*pause*
laii: Yes...
paraka: Hi! It's Lindsay!
laii: . . . .
paraka:
paraka from LJ.
It went well after that. We talked for at least an hour. It was really cool. Although my mom laughed at me and said she could tell I was nervous because I was pacing all over the kitchen. Personally, I could tell I was nervous since I hardly let
laii get a word in edge wise. :P
Anyways, it was great fun, and I can't wait to call other people. And maybe talk to
laii again. I meant to call people last week, but well, time crept up on me, boom it was the weekend and I was busy busy busy.
-HP Stuff: I did however manage to go see the new Harry Potter movie. It had me squeeing and making happy sounds. I won't get into it, since I'm sure people's flists have already been spammed with details, although if people want to discuss it with me, feel free to leave a comment.
The movie did manage to push back into wanting to read HP fic, so I spent last night searching out and then reading a story.
I also came to the realization that I hate talking about HP fandom stuff with my sister. We move in completely different circles within the fandom (aided by the fact that I don't really move in the fandom at all), and I just don't agree with a lot of what she has to say. It got really annoying on the car ride back home from the movie, and I just wanted her to shut up. It kind of put me in a bad mood, and I've been all anti-social since then. Which really sucked since tomorrow is one of my cousin's birthdays and we all went to a party for her today. I normally enjoy family get together's, but today I just kind of resented the fact that I had to be around people. I'm really kind of moody and bitchy sometimes :-/

fyi, if you call again, next week is good... better than this week... I open a show on Saturday and we've only got the rest of the week to rehearse.

Good luck on your show!

I understand about your sister/family. What did you and her disagree about in terms of the movie? What'd you like about it?

How about I try calling you tomorrow at 8?
What did you and her disagree about in terms of the movie?
Well it's been a while since I've read the book, so the movie wasn't that painful to watch (I wasn't noticing everything they didn't put in, or got wrong). Andrea's more in the fandom though, so she noticed more, and would bitch over the little details (Andrea: "Umbridge didn't look like a toad! She was supposed to look like a toad!" Mom: "It's kind of hard to find actors who really look like toads" Andrea: "Because I'm sure the actor who plays Volemort really looks like, why couldn't they have put make up on!" Me: It wouldn't have looked real? Also it's a waste of time and money?").
What really pissed me off though is when she started talking about the books in general, and the 7th book specifically. I mean both of us get a lot of our thoughts from on-line where other people come up with them and we just pick and choose which to believe. Andrea kept talking about things that are more fanon than canon. She'd put greater meaning into things than I think they deserved (like she said that Dumbledore implied that he wanted Snape to kill him in the 4th book. *rolls eyes*). Or would talk about theories like they were fact, and I just didn't want to hear it, because I'd rather just read the 7th book and not have expectations. Although I did get one up on her. She has this huge theory that in the end, it's going to be Neville that kills Voldemort, not Harry, since in the fifth book Dumbledore says that both Harry and Neville fit the description of the prophesy. But I totally killed that theory because if that were really going to happen, it would have made it into the movie. Instead that whole scene and conversation was skipped.
What'd you like about it?
I liked that they made the movie better than the book in a lot of ways. I mean when I read the book, Harry was such a whiny little brat that I could barely stand it. Harry had a few mood swings in the movie but not really the huge amounts of self pity and emo dialogs. Also, something my sister Jenny mentioned; they made Sirius less annoying too. I mean in the book he was biting at the bit and being reckless, and using Harry as a replacement for James, and while they had a tiny bit of that in the movie, there wasn't as much.
I really liked how they showed Umbridge interviewing all the teachers, although it would have been nice to see a bit more of the Hagrid story line.
What did you think of the movie? (you might have made a post, but I'm soooo far behind on my flist right now it's not even funny. I'm thinking of just giving up ans skipping the weeks worth I'm behind on now :S)

Good to read your thoughts : I liked the movie in general, especially the first half which I think did the best job in condensing the book down. But I had a few issues with the second half where the changes bothered me too much, the fatal flaw being not having enough of Snape's worst memory. The rest of my thoughts are here (http://anoel.livejournal.com/45429.html)

Haha, that would have been my biggest concern too. But great, that it worked so fine. And I'm also pacing my apartment when I have to make a call.
Btw, my card for you is on it's way. I mailed it on Friday. I got told that it takes 10-14 days...

I bought you a post card, from the rafting place, I still have to write it though. I can't wait to get your card though! I got something in the mail today and wondered what the heck it was, and thought maybe it was from you. But it turned out to be this largish box, and I'm like, "No she was just sending a letter". Turned out it was a new power cord for my computer, but it had me worried that I had been internet shopping in my sleep, since I had no recollection of buying anything :p

Whee, I'm looking forward to the card. Mine will still take some days till it arrives. I really hope you like it. I've send a similar card to 4 other people and they all liked it. :)

Haha. Did you need a new one?

I really hope you like it.
I'm sure I'll love it :D
Haha. Did you need a new one?
Yeah, the crappy thing is, my mom's broke about the same time as mine did. You have to wiggle the cord an aweful lot to get it to charge.
