Catching up

OK, I've been meaning to post for days, but am finally sitting down to do it.

Now that I've gotten my near death experience out of the way, back to your regularly scheduled fandom stuff.

-Real Life Meme: So I tried calling [livejournal.com profile] anoel on... Tuesday? But I only got her answering machine. :( I didn't want to leave a message since it sounded like it was a family machine, and wouldn't it be weird going "Hi! It's Paraka, you know, from the internetz" I almost gave up there, because I was kind of nervous about the whole thing (what if we had nothing to talk about!?) but decided to give it another try before I lost my nerve. [livejournal.com profile] maekala was next on my list, but she mentioned she'd be out that night. So I tried calling [livejournal.com profile] laii and got *her* VM. I was just about to leave a message, because unlike [livejournal.com profile] anoel it sounded like it was just [livejournal.com profile] laii's voice mail, when I got a beep indicating that someone was calling me.
I decided to answer the beep instead of leaving a message. The conversation when like this:
Person: Did someone there just call me?
[livejournal.com profile] paraka: Umm, I'm not sure. Is this *insert [livejournal.com profile] anoel real name*?
Person: No.
*pause*
[livejournal.com profile] paraka: Is this *insert [livejournal.com profile] laiis real name*?
*pause*
[livejournal.com profile] laii: Yes...
[livejournal.com profile] paraka: Hi! It's Lindsay!
[livejournal.com profile] laii: . . . .
[livejournal.com profile] paraka: [livejournal.com profile] paraka from LJ.

It went well after that. We talked for at least an hour. It was really cool. Although my mom laughed at me and said she could tell I was nervous because I was pacing all over the kitchen. Personally, I could tell I was nervous since I hardly let [livejournal.com profile] laii get a word in edge wise. :P

Anyways, it was great fun, and I can't wait to call other people. And maybe talk to [livejournal.com profile] laii again. I meant to call people last week, but well, time crept up on me, boom it was the weekend and I was busy busy busy.

-HP Stuff: I did however manage to go see the new Harry Potter movie. It had me squeeing and making happy sounds. I won't get into it, since I'm sure people's flists have already been spammed with details, although if people want to discuss it with me, feel free to leave a comment.
The movie did manage to push back into wanting to read HP fic, so I spent last night searching out and then reading a story.
I also came to the realization that I hate talking about HP fandom stuff with my sister. We move in completely different circles within the fandom (aided by the fact that I don't really move in the fandom at all), and I just don't agree with a lot of what she has to say. It got really annoying on the car ride back home from the movie, and I just wanted her to shut up. It kind of put me in a bad mood, and I've been all anti-social since then. Which really sucked since tomorrow is one of my cousin's birthdays and we all went to a party for her today. I normally enjoy family get together's, but today I just kind of resented the fact that I had to be around people. I'm really kind of moody and bitchy sometimes :-/

hahahahahah *wipes tear* ah good memories. and that was just last week! XD
fyi, if you call again, next week is good... better than this week... I open a show on Saturday and we've only got the rest of the week to rehearse.

I am SO sorry about the answering machine. If you can tell me when you're going to call, I can pick it up, my family just usually doesn't. Don't worry about subject material, we'll find something :)

I understand about your sister/family. What did you and her disagree about in terms of the movie? What'd you like about it?

[identity profile] anoel.livejournal.com 2007-07-17 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah that works for me. I'll pick up then.

Good to read your thoughts : I liked the movie in general, especially the first half which I think did the best job in condensing the book down. But I had a few issues with the second half where the changes bothered me too much, the fatal flaw being not having enough of Snape's worst memory. The rest of my thoughts are here (http://anoel.livejournal.com/45429.html)

what if we had nothing to talk about!?
Haha, that would have been my biggest concern too. But great, that it worked so fine. And I'm also pacing my apartment when I have to make a call.

Btw, my card for you is on it's way. I mailed it on Friday. I got told that it takes 10-14 days...

I can't sit down either when I'm on the phone. I walk around my room, sometimes I'm sitting on my window sill. But when I call my sister, I use my headset and do some housework at the same time. My sister does so too. :D

Whee, I'm looking forward to the card. Mine will still take some days till it arrives. I really hope you like it. I've send a similar card to 4 other people and they all liked it. :)

Turned out it was a new power cord for my computer, but it had me worried that I had been internet shopping in my sleep, since I had no recollection of buying anything :p
Haha. Did you need a new one?
