Grrr.
I am getting *so* angry with LiveJournal. To be honest, I kind of want to abandon it all together, I just don't want to lose my flist :(
Have people heard the latest news?
LJ wants to hold us responsible for *all* of the links we have posted to our journals, because if there's something inappropriate on the site we link to, then we're in violation of the TOS.
This is especially dangerous in fandom, because we're notoriously sensuous people. I mean, just look at all our porn. But just think, one day I'm on a kick and decide to rec some great SGA fic. I post a link to some different author's webpages, and everything's great. But then, a month later, one of those authors decides that SPN is their new favourite show and starts posting Wincest fic. LJ has *already* deleted journals for incest. Even though I wasn't even posting to the Wincest, that site is no longer safe and I could potentially lose my journal. And seriously how big is the SPN fandom? All it's going to take is some righteous fuckwit to decided that Wincest is bad, and man, there goes a *ton* of journals. Because unlike in HP, most people don't try to work around the legalities of incest like they will with age.
God, I just want to scream. And cry.
Instead, I'm trying to set up my insanejournal. I've even started a few communities in the hope of building up fandom over there (although god knows I'm a horrible mod :S) Really, people should look into switching too. I know these links have been passed around a lot already, but in the hopes of helping lazy people join, here are some really useful migration tools.
Migration tool
This little program allows you to copy all of your old entries (and will save them to your computer, so back up too) to another journal. That way all of your old entries will be *transferred*. You don't need to leave your history behind.
Semagic
This program allows you to post to more than one journal at a time. I've been using it for the past week or so, and it's been going really well.
bzzinglikeneon linked to a few other helpful tricks here
Another plus for IJ, is that it's only $40 for a *permanent* account. I went ahead and bought one. Way more reasonable than the $150 LJ was asking for.
I really hope to see more people over on IJ soon. *looks hopeful*

Aww, I think that's one of the nicest things anyone on-line has ever said to me <3
And I'm not even saying that people should just up and leave, because, obviously, that's not happening. The thing that makes LJ so special is that we may all know each other because of fandom, but it's not just fandom that holds us together. I mean we laugh and squee over our favourite characters sure, but we also talk to each other when we're concerned about stuff in life, or ask for help with problems, and come cry when life is getting us down. LJ isn't a collection of BNFs or writers and vidders and artist, it's a community of *people*.
The thing is, I just don't feel that LJ is the place best suited for housing our community anymore. TPTB aren't treating us with the respect we deserve. The community isn't organized enough to make a big move all at once, but I think if we all start heading in a direction out, while still living here....
Like I said, get an IJ account and Semagic. That way you can post in both places. People can choose, and it's really not any more difficult to post through there than posting straght on the web. Actually, it has some nice features, like spell check as you go.
If you just are willing to spread out a bit, then eventualy everyone will at least have a network if things here completely go to shit, but it also means we have a chance to meet new people and still keep what we have.

I agree that we're a community of people. And should we leave it's all an individual decision on our own parts to take.

There must be a Mac equivalent. *Googles*
-Here's Livejournal's list. I don't know if they'll cross post, but they're worth a shot.
-Ecto
-MarsEdit (not free past a 30 day trial though)
-QTM
Those are just off the first google page. So I'm sure there's a ton more. I of course can't try any of them out, since I don't own a Mac (I'm kind of anti-Mac), but I'm sure one of them will suit your needs.
According to LJ (and by extension all the LJ clones such as IJ or GJ) any client will work if:
Clients written for the Blogger and Atom APIs should be able to work with LiveJournal, provided you can change which server they post to.

anyways...a couple things. First thank you for all the links. I've bookmarked them and hopefully will use them.
Just so you know, I have a IJ and use the same name there as here. I too bought a paid account. The repix community that I mod has also been switched over there as well. I plan on cross posting mainly until LJ becomes just impossible. I use to love this place and now...it makes me sad what has been coming down.
I came so close last time the permanent journal became available to purchase to doing that but opted not to. I am so glad I didn't do it considering what has happen.

I know! I hope things are going better now. Your mother was sick, right? But she's doing better now?
First thank you for all the links. I've bookmarked them and hopefully will use them.
:P The trick is, the easier you make it for people to move, the more likely they will. If I hadn't come across these links, I probably would have dragged my feet a lot more.

I know! I already have you on my flist. And you have a great layout. I'm still working up the energy to prettify my IJ. It's ugly now, but I kindo f want a more personalized layout than the one I have on LJ, but I suck at making graphics, so it's taking forever :P
The repix community that I mod has also been switched over there as well.
I know and that's awesome. I saw that a group of QaF groups picked up and left, and I think that's awesome. Fandom is too lazy to move unless the com owners and BNF *force* them.
I plan on cross posting mainly until LJ becomes just impossible.
I know, I kind of want to make the stance that I'm leaving LJ completely, but I know that I'll just end up losing, because I doubt most people would follow just because of me. At this point I'm not sure if I want LJ to keep shooting itself in the foot, or not.
I use to love this place and now...it makes me sad what has been coming down.
I really just can't express how disappointed and angry I am.
Anyways, great to see you around again!

What every you decide to do, just know that I would be happy to help you in anyway I can.
oh..and yes. My mother was sick. But she is almost good as new. LOL...So happy and so relieved.
;-))
I'm logged in from my other journal. Sorry about that.

Wow, that's awesome, I may just take you up on that! :D
