Not the best start here
So, hello to the new people on my flist. I look forward to getting to know you. And to start off, I'm going to make a post that has *nothing* to do with fandom. Please feel free to skip.
Personally I don't really care about the game. I don't know the rules *at*all* so watching it makes no sense for me. I don't begrudge other people enjoying the game, but please, please, *please* keep it out of Ottawa.
It's been in the news lately that there's a group of people talking with the mayor about bringing a team back. Please don't. We just lost our old one a few years ago (seriously, what was it? 2 years ago?). We lost it, because no one would go to the games. People were losing money. If your professional players have to have a day job to support themselves, then obviously there's something wrong.
Ottawa is just not a good city for professional sports. In recent memory, we've lost a football team, a baseball team and a lacrosse team. Because no one in the city will support them. We don't have the population, and since this is a government town, we don't have the private businesses to support professional sports. Seriously, there was a while there, when there was talk of losing the *hockey* team. If the *hockey* team was struggling, no way in hell are we going to be able to support a *football* team.
I just don't want to have to listen for the months on end, of fans rallying and saying "If you don't support our team, we're going to lost it" All I'll be thinking is, "Can we lose it for good this time?"
On a fandom note:
I just watched 201 of Numb3rs, and no wonder why I couldn't really remember the story line for Megan and Colby showing up. There wasn't one. They barely even explained why Terry wasn't there. *pfft* At least I wasn't going crazy....
I'm so not going to be able to rewatch everything before Friday's new episode.
Also? My computer, you know the one that's caused me no end of trouble? Well, last week I started getting these messages saying that a "SMART error" had occurred, and to back my shit up because I could lose it at any time. I called Gateway, and they were supposed to send me a new hard drive, instead they sent me a CD with the factory standards on it. Not what I needed. And now, my computer won't even start up. I think I'm going to have to kill someone. Seriously.

Also, heh, hello! By the way, I'm one of those people that like "personal" posts, not just fandom.

Ottawa though, has a population of only 800,000 and it's only that high, because the amalgamated all the outlying farm land. When the Scotia Bank Place (formally the "Paladium", or something stupid like that, and the Corel Centre) was built, it was built in the middle of nowhere in an empty field. The main jobs in Ottawa are government (Capital of Canada here) or agricultural, with a side of tech jobs. Other than the tech jobs, those aren't the kind of businesses that can support a lot of professional sports teams. *shrugs*
I also had no idea that there was talk about getting rid of the Senators. *hugs hockey*
Oh, that was years ago, they're not in any trouble at the moment. In fact, they've been having record selling tickets so far this year, and they made a ton of money last season, what with going all the way to the Stanley cup playoffs (and their little marketing ploy of making you buy seasons tickets for this season to buy game tickets in advance for the playoff games).
No, I'm pretty sure that the Sens are here for a while at least, but those first few years were rough (they were in the NHL way back in the early 1900s, but disbanded, and were only remade in something like 1994).
Also, Yay! Someone to talk hockey with! During the play offs last year I kept making all these posts, and everyone would ignore them. :P

Yeah, I like both (although it depends on the person sometimes). I figure, that if I just wanted fandom, well, I'd go to a yahoo group, or a message board, or a webpage. LJ is special, because not only can you squee over fandom stuff, but there are people that you get to *know* and become real *friends* with. :)

But I'm a huge hockey fan! The Avalanche are my team but I think Colorado is in for a rude awakening yet again. People love them but we've been spoiled; the team won the Cup their first year here in '96 and had been in the playoffs every year since then. Only this past year did they fail to do so and, well, people were pretty damn upset. Things haven't been as great as they used to be since Patrick Roy retired and what with Peter Forsberg leaving and the old goalie juggling. I think last year was the year that the sellout record was broken too. It's gonna be tough for us for a while.
Anyway, yes, I love talking about hockey! I can't wait for the season to start and actually, I just bought a few tickets today. I'm too poor for season tickets but I love going to the games.
re:fandom. Yep, that's true. But a whole lot of people only like to squee, which is fine, but I like personal posts because I find it hard to get to know people otherwise.

Meh, it's not just an American thing. I can name all the Canadian hockey teams, but I have to think really hard to name American ones, and even then I'm sure I'm only going to be getting half of them... maybe. As much as this post may say otherwise, I'm not actually a huge hockey fan. I follow the Sens only, and even then I generally only watch the games during the playoffs. *shrugs* I'm lazy.
As for the hockey politics... yeah, they can be pretty crazy. I know the Sens are going through some right now, because the people that played in the play offs weren't the normal players. Things got really mixed up and it *worked* but now they want to go back to the same old, but don't at the same time. Ya know? Personally I think it should be Emery in the goals, not Gerber.

I've been to a few games, and they were fun, but to be honest (and I'm *really* showing my lack of knowledge here) I kind of prefer watching it on TV, because otherwise I miss so much, and don't always know what's going on. I like my instant replays. :P

Well, I can understand it a bit. Some people make a lot of long personal posts. I know that when I first started on LJ, I made a lot of posts about my pet *fish*. Seriously. That... can be a bit boring. I know *I* generally skip of sports posts, like there was this one person on my flist who used to make endless posts about soccer. I just didn't care to read it. I always *start* to read personal posts, but my flist is so long sometimes that I just end up skimming instead.

And in the beginning, I didn't like Megan, only cos her voice annoyed the hell out of me, but now... now I love her. Megan/Larry :)
I totally don't know anything at all about the new season and I can't wait to see this new episode... COLBY IS NOT BAD. :)

OMG ME TOO!
COLBY IS NOT BAD. :)
Of course not! He'll be back on the team in not time, just watch :) I can't remember, but did you see the promo that I uploaded? :D
no subject
Nope, but then if i thought it was in any way spoilerish I probably would've just skipped past it quickly!
Yeah, the lawyer lady says something like she hears she's gone back to Washington, which is when Don says something about giving her marriage another go, cos they'd already mentioned in Season 1 that she was seperated. I have a freakishly good memory sometimes :)
Oh, I hope so :$ And your icon... I just noticed it.. :(

Ahh, I avoid spoilers too, but for some reason don't consider offical promos spoilers... If you haven't seen it, I won't say anymore then.
And your icon... I just noticed it.. :(
Yeah, when I finally saw the Janus List, I went on a Colby icon thing, because I realized I didn't have any.
It's funny, I always knew I loved Don, and Larry was always cute. Then I developed a bit of a crush on Megan, but Colby... I first though "what a cool character" while watching One Hour when he was running everywhere, and totally fell in love with him after the Janus List, but going back and watching season 2? How could I not have noticed how cool he was from the beginning!? I just watched the ep yesterday where he was chasing after a guy and:
Colby: Stop or I'll shoot you in the back!
Guy: I'm not armed *puts hands up*
Colby: *hand cuffs* I know that, I just didn't feel like running today
:D

I don't have any Colby icons. I'm so damned fussy I have to really, really love an icon before I snag it. But I do need to go on a hunt for some, definitely :)

*lol* Yeah, he's great ;) I also liked how confused he always was by the Megan/Larry relationship. Like during Tow Daughters when he found out he just didn't get it, then there was another episode (can't remember the name) when he and David were watching some power station which Charlie had said was the next to be attacked, and he and David were parked up in their car on some lovers layby, which in itself was fantastic! and Coly was quizzing David about the relationship of Megan/Larry and saying didn't David think it was weird and whatever, and David was had this wtf look on his face and sais something like 'seriously, I don't think about it', like he couldn't understand why Colby was so fascinated with it :) Aw see, once I start talking about Colby I ramble :D

Well, I never disliked Colby, I just... didn't feel the immediate reaction to him that I felt for Don. I'd laugh at his jokes, and find him funny, but I needed something to make him *pop*. I guess I orignially felt for Colby what I feel for David now. I like David, he's a good character, but other than that one ep where he was flirting with the community centre woman, he hasn't had much of a spot light on him, and I just can't *love* him as I do Don, Colby, Megan and Larry.
he couldn't understand why Colby was so fascinated with it :)
It's because he was secretly harbouring feelings for a similar geek. :P Why yes, I *am* a slasher. Although I don't think I've ready any Colby/Charlie yet....
Aw see, once I start talking about Colby I ramble :D
Oh ramble away. I love it when people do (it makes me feel less lonely, since I do it so often). My journal is 100% open to fandom ramblings :P

I love how I can ramble on your journal. I remember we did this before about Numb3rs, and although i can't remember what we were talking about at the time, we went on for ages! *lol*
*hugs*

OMG, after last nights episode!? I think I'm going to have to search out some fics.... :D

The post I made about the Janus List had a lot of talk, that was probably it. But yeah, I love the rambling, I do it so much, and I just love that we can get so into our shows :D Watching a show, and being in the fandom/talking about the show really do give you very different experiences.
