'Tis the season...
To be eating.
So
laii and I were talking. We were talking about food, and decided that there needs to be a meme. A meme in which we share recipes so that we can all try a new dish come Christmas, or whatever it is that you celebrate, or just to try something new.
So to start off, I'm offering up my mom's recipe for broccoli salad.
Ingredients
Part 1
-1 bunch broccoli - chopped fine.
-1 medium sweet onion - diced fine.
-1 apple (Mackintosh) - chopped small.
-1/2 cup raisins.
-1/2 sunflower seeds (optional)
Part 2
-3/4 cup mayo.
-2 Tbsp white sugar.
-1 Tbsp vinegar.
2-3 squirts of lemon juice.
Instructions
Mix Part 2 well, and add Part 1 to the mix. Cooked bacon can be crumbled on top for extra taste.
This recipe can be made early in the day or the night before, but should be refrigerated at least a few hours before serving.
Now share some of your favourite recipes with me!

Tell me what you prefer, a curry recipe, or my lemon & herb salmon (: (I know, not everyone is a spicy fan, hence the choice)

so you'll need:
garlic
ginger
an apple (I tend to use maybe 1/3 of an apple per person?)
one piece of chicken per person
dijon mustard &
tandori curry paste (lol, I cheat, I know, but it's a quick and simple recipe)
so, chop your ginger and garlic up (I cut the ginger into thin strips, but that's a personal preference, you just don't want to cut it up too small)
Put that in the pot with a little bit of oil, and put it on a medium-low heat.
While that's going, cut your chicken into curry sized pieces. Usually by that point your ginger and garlic's been going for long enough, put your chicken in the pot, stir it all around, and then cover it for maybe a minute or two.
Take your tandori paste and mustard, about half a tablespoon of the tandori paste in, and half a teaspoon of mustard. stir that all about and cover the pot again
then while that's going you can chop up your apple into cubes.
Stir occasionally, and once it's been cooking for a few minutes add in your apple, stir it all about, and then, put it on a low heat and just, let it finish cooking (stirring it occasionally)
Uhh, lol, um. I don't really have times. You could always cut a piece of chicken in half to see if its cooked all the way through, and near the end I let it simmer for a bit. It takes me about, 40 minutes from start to finish?
I also at the same time tend to make some garlic bread and cook some rice (which I occasionally cook with some lime leaves in). You can also add in some mushroom when you put the apple in, which I do on occasion (I like portebello mushroom). Also you can put in some green onion as well =P
I do make other curries, but this is the one recipe I tend to re-use, the other ones is literally me just making it up as I go along every time *g*

My dad makes all sorts of good things (almost making up for his general uselessness the rest of the year), mostly snacks. "Nuts 'n' Bolts" consists of cheerios, shreddies, various nuts and pretzels roasted with oil and seasonings, and it's really tasty. He also makes seasoned toasted almonds, and candied orange peels. Mmmm. I'm going over there tonight to stuff my face.
My uncle is an expert chocolatier, so Christmas at his house is always good too. Chocolate and shortbread. Mmmmmm.

Ah well, what are the holidays for if not over eating :P
