The Seed and Twilight
So as a big Carson fan, this episode made me happy :D I loved that Carson was just there, and jumping back into things. And I loved all the little McBeck moments that popped up. Oh Rodney ♥ going and talking to Carson while he was frozen!
Even though I hate the very idea of Rodney/Keller, I must admit, I really liked some of the things we saw/learned about Rodney through the dynamic they were trying to set up. I love how Rodney has become such a brave little toaster!
As for Woolsey, well, I have to say, how John was acting pissed me off more than how Woolsey was. Did they have to keep bring up the "by the book" thing? I know they were trying to set up his character but they pushed it far too far. It drove me more than a little nuts. In other news, I really loved Woolsey's reasons for sending Carson back to Earth. I wasn't expecting them to send him back but I liked that he had a real reason with common sense behind it.
Hmm, I thought I had more to say about the ep but well, I think I waited too long to write this up. Plus others on my flist have already said what I was thinking.
In other news,
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
I sent her quite a few emails flailing at how bad the book was. And it was, I spent half the week with my face in my hands over some of the stupid things that were written. That said, I don't think the story line itself was bad. It read to me like a typical romance novel story line actually with the main heroine being flawed but the hero seeming perfect. Dark secrets and danger that keep them apart and just when they get over those problems an outside danger threatens them.
I don't think the storyline is that original and I probably wouldn't have read it on it's own but my god it makes me want to weep with sorrow for the teenage girls out there that are eating this up. I just... the way it's *written*. How Edward can't be mentioned without also mentioning how beautiful he is. The adjectives, oh the adjectives! It feels like the author loves her thesaurus a little too much, because she uses so many flowery descriptors that are technically correct but are really meant to be used that way, so feel awkward. The fact that Bella is a stupid whiney snob but everyone still adores her. The fact that Edward is a moody dick who shows his love in dangerous-we-should-call-the-police-on-this-creep type ways. That Bella is * begging* Edward to kill her.
It makes me sad that this is what teenage girls find romantic.
And, as a random add on, since I fail at SGA canon, has there ever been a scene of the team around a campfire?

Twilight
See, I've heard mixed reviews on that. Some say it gets better, others have said it gets worse.
Also, that was a great comic. Is there an LJ feed for it?
Re: Twilight
*checks*
Well, I didn't find a feed, but I did find an LJ where updates are posted: http://headtripcomics.livejournal.com/
Re: Twilight
Thanks for the link and the new read. :)

although with my roommate raving on and on and on about how *good* of a writer she is... I'm tempted to ask where you downloaded the audiobook from.

And that's what really boggles my mind about all this. The story line is basically a romance novel without sex (and hey, you can even find romance novels these days with vampires and werewolves) but written horribly.
*looks over the emails I sent to
-At one point she describes the small living room as "handkerchief sized"
-She describes the names Edward, Alice, Emmett, etc. as "grandparent-type names".\
-She calls snowballs "mushballs"
-From my email: "I wish the author would stop listing all the stupid random things that Bella does. It really drove me crazy that week when Edward was away from school, because it was all "Bella went to school, noticed Edward wasn't there, and blamed herself. Then she went home, made dinner and scolded
herself for being so self centred to think she was the reason Edward wasn't there. The next morning Bella headed to school. In biology Edward still wasn't there. Bella barely made it through gym without dying during dodgeball. Then Bella headed home, then Bella, then Bella, then Bella, OMG SHUT UP!"
-"Traitor tears were there betraying me"
-"Her heart spluttered"
-"Liquid topaz eyes"
-"His marble eyebrow puckered"
Yeah. *cringes*

Oh I totally agree - John totally pissed me off in this episode by just being moody all the damn time, wanted to slap him really. Then again, I guess I'm one of the very, very few who is really glad to see the back of Sam.

As for Sam... I never really cared for her in SG-1. I didn't hate her or anything but I didn't love her either. Mostly I didn't really notice her.
When they announced that Sam was coming over, I was really worried that she'd mess up the dynamic of the show (because she's kind of taking over both Rodney and John's jobs) but nothing really panned out. She made me really miss Elizabeth in the beginning because it seemed like she was reading Weir's lines but they didn't seem right coming from her. Mostly the only thing that pisses me off about Sam leaving was the fact that they killed Elizabeth off to bring Sam over, then did nothing with her and kicked her off the show too. It just felt like a big waste of time and needless messing with the characters.

I think Woolsey might turn out to be quite interesting - I'm hopeful, anyway =)

I'm cautiously optimistic about Woolsey. I do respect the character and have since SG-1. I like that he's a realistic foil for them. He's not a bad guy, just a guy doing his best but getting in the way.

Absolutely - I was actually quite pleased when I found out - and luckily for me it was the only spoiler I stumbed across!

Or maybe it's just because I'm on mailing lists more now than I was back then and they're really bad compaired to LJ.

On Twilight, oh man. Please tell you're going to keep reading! It just gets better. And I think I still have an email of yours I need to get to, but I just haven't had the chance. I need more of those emails, though. Keep reading!

Meh, it's had elements. They haven't been picking on Rodney very much so far this season, which always pisses me off, but they haven't had any real John/Rodney interactions either.
They've really been pushing Hero!John on us this season. As well as het relationships. Which I find annoying.
There have been some great Rodney moments. One with Teyla in 501, and he was acting like a giant woobie sweetheart for much of 502, when he wasn't yelling at people. ♥
Also, 502 had Carson in it which made me squee a lot. Woolsey too. John's reaction to Woolsey pissed me off to no end, but there was this one scene with Carson and Woolsey that really made me respect Woolsey's character and the way he thinks, even if he's going to have to change his ways in Atlantis.
You should totally watch the episodes though so we can chat about them like we did last year. I don't have the highest of hopes for this season (I don't think there's going to be a lot of team time, and even less John/Rodney) but starting up our meta conversations again would definitely help me get through it :)
As for Twilight... I'll try and get through the next ones but I'm now fully into the new job and sitting with others (and my boss right behind me) so I might not have as much time since I always listen at work.
