Vidding

So, as I said, I'm done my [livejournal.com profile] sgabigbang vid and although it was stressful I really enjoyed doing it. It kind of makes me want to try and make more vids based on fics. The only thing is, so many of the fics I read are AUs and there's just no way I would be able to vid them. Still I'll have to keep my eyes open.

In other news, I actually started watching Dr. Who tonight and all I can really think is: Really? This is what everyone's so excited about?

You have to give Doctor Who some time because a huge selling point for it is loving the characters. I don't know where you're starting from but I'm not a big fan of the episodic plots at ALL but I adore the Doctor and the companions and the joy of it which is what appeals to me. I didn't truly love it until towards the end of the Nine season and really it took me til the third season with my beloved Martha and the Master to REALLY get into it.

I totally agree with [livejournal.com profile] anoel. When I first watched "Rose" I was kinda ambivalent about whether I was going to like the series as a whole, but I loved how quirky the Doctor was, so I kept at it. In my mind, the series took off when they added Captain Jack. Unfortunately, he was only in the last five eps of the first series, so we didn't near as much fun out of him until we got Torchwood.

I'm an "old school" Whovian, from back when the acting was cheesy and the monsters were made out of foam rubber and bubble wrap LOL. The new show is "ohh, shiny!" but I have to admit that I while I love Nine, I'm ambivalent to most often annoyed by Ten. I quit watching halfway through Tennant's second season and haven't seen any of this last one, even though according to my husband it's the best one yet. I just...Tennant irks me. I'll be happy when he regenerates, is all I'm saying.

But yeah, it's a character-driven show more than a plot-driven show, so you have to give yourself some time to grow fond of them. I loved Nine, didn't like Ten. I liked Rose with Nine, she annoyed the shit of of me with Ten. Martha I like when she's not mooning over the Doctor. Jack is wonderful (much better than he is in Torchwood) but he's in and out.

But anyway. :P

Congrats on finishing your vid! (Haven't had a chance to watch it yet, but I'll get to it tonight, yay! Sorry -- things have just been crazy lately.) Also, AU vids would be incredible. I've seen a couple of vids where they mix footage of an actor from several different shows and it really makes for an interesting vid.

Total side note: the roommate and I were on a quest recently to find new DVDs to watch now that we've finished with The Office and she was thinking of giving QAF a try. Unfortunately, they don't stock it at Best Buy -- because it's the most frequently stolen DVD. That cracked me up.
