So, Canada has a medal count. So of course, I'm crying. I didn't actually know we had won anything until they started playing the national anthem and then my eyes started watering. I'm such a giant suck. The anthem on it's own can generally start the water works with me but watching Carol Huynh holding her flowers and crying on TV just cinched it. Hell I'm crying just writing about it.

This is sooooo the wrong time of the month for me to be seeing this stuff. Still: Yay for Carol Huynh, David Calder and Scott Frandsen, and Tonya Verbeek. You make us proud!

I won't say where Australia is on the medal tally, but it looks like we are going to win our bet with the UK... *veg*

Heh, Canada is more of a a Winter Olympics country so it's not that surprising that it took us this long. I don't know if anyone was expecting the wrestling wins, from what I've been hearing we've been pinning out hopes on the water sports ('cause we've got lots of that here too).

Still I've realized why I've been avoiding watching the olympics so far, because even if it's not my country I still cry when the winners realize that they've won. I'm feeling very emotional right now. :S

What's the bet Australia has with the UK?

The UK Sports (actually the Cultural Minister who covers sport) Minister said before the olympics that it would be a banner games for the uk and that they'd beat Australia. The aussie Sports Minister is holding him to it. *g*

We're 5th and they're 7th at present, with 8 medals separating us. It could get bloody. *g*

God, you have 8 medals seperating you, meanwhile Canada doesn't even *have* 8 medals :P

I love the winter ones too, if only because I can relate to them more. Also, everyone is bundled up more so I can't see their faces as easily and it means I cry less. ;)

It's nervewracking! The UK is now 3rd with 12 gold to our 4th with 11 gold. In the overall standings we are still 4th and the UK is 6th...

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you guys. Although Canada is now racking up the medals. A local man just won a silver today... at the age of *61*. My parents had lunch in his little town outside the city today they were sooo happy. It was his 9th Olympics and his first medal.

I've just checked the news report again and it looks like it is the total medal tally. The UK sports minister was boasting they'd clear 40 medals this olympics and be ahead of Australia... *g*

At the moment we are at 33 medals and the UK is at 27. But they are still one ahead on gold... *glares* *g*

And congratulations! I saw that you'd got another medal overnight and were now at 9!!! Ranked 17th on gold and 15th overall. Which is good with over 40 countries competing!

Oh let me tell you how teary the olympics make me. At first I thought it was just Canadians winning but then I started watching more and I just started crying for everyone who won. Although it broke my heart a little this morning to hear that one of our women in the triathalon broke her arm when a biker in front of her went down. It's got to be so frustrating to lose because someone else screwed up. :S

I just finished watching the Trampolining Qualification round and there were some awesome Canadians in the audience. Even with the roar of the Chinese audience when they came on, you could still hear this group going strong, "CANADA! CANADA!" I totally thought of you.

Plus, I must say, your Trampoline girls are looking very promising.

I watched a couple of the trampoline rounds and I always find them so cool. I think I'm getting better now, but I wasn't really able to watch much of the olympics this weekend, because as I said, I would just get so caught up and start crying. Even if it wasn't Canadians winning.
