Snowflake Challenge: Day 1

I've been aware of the [community profile] snowflake_challenge for at least two years now, but this year I decided to try participating, we'll see how it goes.

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

So, I thought it'd be fun to do 3 different kinds of fanworks for this. I know I promarily think of myself as a podficcer, but I've actually done a lot of things in fandom.

Hurt, fanvid, Queer as Folk, Brian/Justin
So, before I hadever heard of podfic, I got dragged into fandom through Queer as Folk and fanvids. Talking to other fans, I gather that a lot of people got into fandom either through fandom-type spaces (message boards, tumblr, etc.) and/or through fanfic, but not me! I got pulled into fandom through vids. In fact, my first 3-4 months in fandom I only consumed fanvids. I used to be almost as obsessed with fanvids as I am today obsessed with podfic.

I started making podfics in 2004, using crappy video files I had downloaded off of Kazaa and put together using Windows Movie Maker. And even though the quality on the vids aren't always the best, I'm still pretty proud of those vids I made.

Hurt is the one I feel holds up the best. It's the only QaF vid I made in something other than WMM and even though I went a little overboard on the additive transitions, I still think it's a good vid. The song really fits Brian and it's a strong narrative on the Brian/Justin relationship.

Howling Commandos HQ, coverart, Avengers
I never used to consider myself as someone who was particularly good with graphics, but it's amazing the number of skills I've picked up because of podfic.

This cover art is one of the only covers where I sat back and felt damn proud of. The "header" image is from a piece of a Captain America poster, and I think it works so well for the purposes of this cover. I built the rest of the "website" in Photoshop, which took me longer than I want to admit.

No. podmeta, co-podded with [personal profile] klb, [personal profile] bessyboo, [personal profile] jenepod and [personal profile] reena_jenkins
I wanted to post a piece of meta as my 3rd rec, but all the meta I wrote, that I could find tended to be angry and pretty specific to whatever situation I was responding to, so instead, I present to you meta written by gyzym and recorded as a group. It was a really powerful thing to have a group of us sit in a circle reading this aloud and I think you canhear that when you listen.
