I have to study for an exam, so of course I'm procrastinating. :D

So I've been thinking.

Everyone is the SGA fandom seem to be totally in love with John Sheppard. People may love Rodney more, but they still adore John. I mean, when you look at some of the major pairings in this fandom, they all have John in it (John/Rodney, John/Elizabeth). I'm on this one yahoo group that's always squeeing about Sheppard whump. A few weeks ago, I went on a search for Rodney whumping fics, and even then I was finding them more focused on John than Rodney.

Now, I'm not saying Rodney never gets attention, but still, you'll run across people that dislike him (or at least come across as not loving him. They'll portray him as more annoying than he is on the show, or as fat (which drives

geeklite crazy :P)).

The thing is, while I don't hate John or anything, he really doesn't interest me that much. When he's on screen, I'm just kind of meh. I don't actually find him all that hot (I'm waayyy more attracted to Rodney than John). I know people pair him up with everyone, but honestly? The only John pairing that I'm comfortable reading is John/Rodney. *shrugs*

Maybe it's my Rodney bias shining through, but I have to ask, am I the only one not in love with John Sheppard?

Nope! I don't hate him or anything, but Sheppard doesn't grab me as particularly interesting and/or hot. I read McKay/Sheppard because a lot of it is really well written, but I haven't really felt the urge to write it because while I enjoy McKay, Sheppard doesn't really do it for me. The only time I've been able to write McKay/Sheppard was when Sheppard wasn't quite what he seemed (ie in Failsafe, or the one where Sheppard becomes zombified, or the one where he's a faery blacksmith and the whole story is just crack).

You know the one time I sat up and thought 'OMG, Sheppard is hot!' was when he was all buggified in Conversion. HOT.

A couple people have suggested I try writing Sheppard/Lorne, but I really can't do it!

Ooooh, and I hate it when people portray Rodney as fat too. I wrote a ficlet for

It's just that so many people love John, and I was thinking, if I were to list the characters of the show in order of my love, I think he'd probably be below even Weir (whom I don't really care about on the show, but looks totally awesome in vids). If it weren't for the fact that there's some truly awesome fic featuring him, I'd be like "John who?" :P

And the Rodney fat thing? I think people need to learn the difference between *fat* and *out of shape*. You can be skinning as a stick and still be out of shape, and you can weigh 200 pounds and still be in shape. Rodney may huff and puff while running, but he's not fat, like at all. He's broad in the shoulders, but so is Carson, and no one calls him fat.

Although the way wardrobe messed with him in Duet, he had some serious moobies (man boobies, in case you've never heard that term). That made him look a little on the chunky side.

Yeah, I will admit, that his wardrobe doesn't exactly compliment his body type. Not that I think Rodney looks fat, but I've been told that Hewlett looks way skinnier in real life.

Definitely. In Century Hotel, he looked way skinnier (and had a good bum). In fact, your icon looks like it's from CH.

Yeah, and when you see some of the stuff from when he was a lot younger, he's practically skin and bones. I loved Century Hotel, it was such an awesome movie, the only thing I didn't like was the sex scenes with the prostitute, they were just weird, and there for nakedness. If we were going to get sex scenes, why couldn't it have been David and that dude? *whines* :P Fans will forever be grateful for that ass shot though :D

I got bored with the prostitute. And she wasn't particularly attractive, either. I remember seeing a promotional shot or a screencapture or something when I was first starting to get into DH as an actor and I saw that shot and shouted (literally), "Oh my god, he's gay!" Squeeing ensued.

I'll admit, knowing that David was playing a gay character was a big part of the reason why I was wiling to pay to see it. :P

Overall the prostitute story was good, bu yeah, they kind of dragged it on a lot. :S

I have weird feelings about Weir. I'll watch vids about her and think "She's so awesome cool, I love Weir!" and then I'll watch the show and be like "Huh? She kind of sucks." But the vids! They make me *want* to love her. Also, how cool was she during The Long Goodbye? We need more of Weir with a machine gun beating marines up.

Well, I'm more interested in McKay (ie: reading/writing fics about him), but I'm more attracted to Sheppard. And usually when I'm attracted to a character that's the one I write/read fic for, but... not in this case, for some reason.

Pretty odd, now that I think about it.

John is more classically handsome, but there's just something about Rodney's brain and snark that makes me want to jump him. Also when your reading fics, and don't actually have their faces in front of you, it's easier to enhance/forget and Rodney is way more fun to read and write.

Well I'm only halfway through S1 but I definitely love Rodney the most and have yet to get the huge love for John. He doesn't interest me that much as well. That being said, I do enjoy John/Rodney.

No, I have all of S1-2, I just have a lot of other shows to catch up on first. I'll probably be catching up on it by June.

Yeah, I get that. I'm a one fandom kind of girl, but people keep suggesting things to watch, and I *want* to, I'd probably even enjoy the fandom, but I'm just too wrapped up in SGA right now. Well, if you get to season 3 and still need some downloads, let me know.

You're not the only one. I, personally, prefer a good Rodney-whumping to pretty much anything else.

:D It seems I've filled my flist with Rodney lovers. Granted it's not hard, he is one of the best characters *evah* (in my humble opinion at least :P)

And John just doesn't seem all that whumpable to me. He's too stoic. Especially since I prefer mental H/C to physical any day.

And the way that the writers have portrayed his character just make him perfect for psychological pain. Yeah, he bitches about hurting, but that's just him being...him. I'm not sure if he could be stoic while under physical duress...he'd be complaining too much. But the minute you start screwing with his head, it gets really interesting. The Eye and The Storm pretty much epitomize that.

I don't know, I once read someone saying that McKay only bitches about the minor things. When something really bothers him though, he's quite. Like during the Eye/Storm he hardly mentioned his arm, but in Conversion he whined about a splinter.

It *is* really fun screwing with his head though.

He didn't mention his arm while they were still in the middle of a crisis, but as soon as they were all safe, he was bitching cause he had to bandage it himself.

So, if being tortured or something, he might not whine during the torture except that surprised yelp he sometimes does that amuses the hell out of me. But he would definitely complain while they were treating him.

What I kind of mean, is he only complains when he feels comfortable. Which can lead to some fun situations in fanfic. Like working through an injury until he drops. As much as he likes to complain, Rodney never really shirks when it matters.

In fact, this past season of SGA was the one that helped John gain some ground in my eyes 'cause I had some serious issues with him in S2. So who knows what changes in favoritism S4 might bring.

I mean, I love h/c and all, esp. when Rodney's the one hurt then being comforted, but there's a limit to how many times I can read about everyone underestimating him and him being all isolated and sad and abandoned before eventually proving everyone wrong and making them so ashamed at how badly they misjudged him. I guess I just don't like how Rodney whump so often seems to translate into fic where character bashing takes place to make it happen.

That said, if you're still looking for Rodney whump, I could direct you to a bunch of fics that are *all about Rodney and his whumpedness*, though the majority might be of questionable quality.

That's true, when I started off in SGA Carson was my favourite character, and I'll admit, I had a real hard time finding Rodney attractive, because in like the first episode, there was a scene where he made a face and looked kinda like Stephen Harper, and that just *killed* it for me. I've gotten over it now, but *shudders* (I was vidding yesterday, and saw another scene that made me think that, and I just had to stop it bothered me so. :( )

Yes, that *does* happen a lot. Even before Trinity, but certainly afterwards.
