Happy Birthday
paradise_city!
I know you said you don't do birthdays, but still, I had some ice cream covered in peanutbutter chocolate sauce and thought of you. :D
In other news how scary is this?.
Seriously I went and read the whole Globe and Mail article, and thought the ending was well said. You can go and talk about saving the country/world all you want, but what happened to Mr. Arar didn't save the world, all it did was ruin a mans life, and that's the kind of thing they want to leave wiggle room for? God.

That American judge was all "Jack is my hero!!11! <3" and even the British former lawyer was like "I could get him off if he ever went to court" It was all very head-desky. And the ending of the article did a good job of bringing the story back and really showing the seriousness of the discussion by bringing up the Arar case. It's all well and good if a bad guy gets a few punches if it saves a city or a country or whatever on TV, but what about people in real life who get tortured and are innocent?
I really couldn't believe it. I mean it's one thing to talk about things like that, but there's a time and a place for it, and during an international comity meeting about torture is just not appropriate.
