So, I have a question I want to put to my flist. In fics, people either portray Rodney as being a really good dancer, or a really bad dancer, which do you think is true? [Poll #1144955]
You know, the thought of Rodney being a good dancer is so damn charming I could die. And I really enjoy fic in which he totally blows everyone away with his awesome skillz (and later John returns the favor *winknudge*). But do I really believe it? Hell no. Realistically, I don't think he'd be anything but awkward, even with like, ballroom dancing; even if he took classes as a kid with Jeannie. And see, I love that too! Dammit, can Rodney do no wrong?! *loves him*
I think he'd probably be awkward at first, because he'd try to over think it big time, but I could see him being graceful once he's comfortable. But yeah, he'd totally be cute while doing it :)
I totally meant to ask you about this tonight when we were talking, but it kept slipping my mind. So, now, I ask: why? Is this just one of those random questions you thought of?
Also, which fics are you reading where they have him dancing? Maybe I just haven't been reading the right ones (although, shit, I just realized I haven't really read any SGA fic that wasn't femslash in...way too long) or something, but I don't think I've ever read a fic where the concept of dancing really came up.
I was listening to a fic where there was much Rodney dancing, and they had him counting out the beats as he danced, but I've also read quite a few where he either sucks, or shocks people by being good.

I can actually see him going either way. As long as he wasn't overly self conscious about it and he was able to find someone to teach him that he respected. I can visualize him getting all huffy because everyone was making a big stink out of it.
It's probably the combination of you reading AUs (for some reason, I haven't really read all that many in SGA but that's almost entirely what I read in Star Wars) and the fact that I really haven't read that many fics period. At least recently. But last night I totally started looking for fics.
The idea of him being a good dancer is incredibly hot! I think it is believable... I think that Rodney would be brilliant at anything that puts his mind to! :)
That's kind of my thought too. I think if he ever took the time to learn he's be awesome at dancing. Also, if someone were able to get him going, without him thinking about it, I bet he's got some natural grace.
