Who here has heard of 3 Day Novel? If you haven't, it's a novel writing contest (to get your novel published) where you have 3 days, over the Labour Day long weekend to write a novel.

I tried doing it 2 years ago (well, I was writing fanfic, so I wasn't participating in the actual contest part of it, just using the atmosphere and challenge to get some writing done). While I didn't finish the story I was writing I did manage to get 10K of it written over the weekend, it was pretty awesome.

There's going to be mad writing at the house this year for it, and I'm thinking trying it again myself.

Except, the thing is (and you guys may have noticed this ;) I'm more of a podficcer than I am a writer. So I was thinking of changing it from a 3 day novel writing weekend, so a 3 day novel podficcing weekend! I want to get at least 10K read and edited in a weekend!

Anyone want to join me?

For me, it's emerging as the only reason, more often than not, that I ever get any podfic done. So you know, hooray, at least I am making podfic!
I sooo get that. I redid my webpage this week and it was a little depressing to realize just how many of my fanworks were made for a challenge of some kind. So far this year I've made 16 podfics. Only one of those wasn't finished for a challege, comm or other obligation. And, actually, that one was a birthday present, so that might fall under "other obligation."

Of the 56 fanworks I've made since joining fandom, only 18 of those weren't done for a comm of some sort. Almost 70% of my fanworks were made because of some kind of challenge. /o\

This is probably why I run so many comms, they're what keep me producing. ;)

Awesome! I don't actually know what I'll record. My to-podfic list is soooo long that I don't even know where to start. Do you think it would be cheating to work on a WIP podfic I have going? Because I've really been wanting to work on orbedrowned lately.

Or! If I want to start a "unique" project that'll still get me through my WIP folder, I can do Forbidden City the next fic in the Becoming a Universe Within series that I started recording earlier this year...

There's also a crazy Kradam mpreg fic I've been wanting to record ever since I read it...

Yes and no for me! Mostly no. As a personal project (and remember, that was how it originally came into being), ReMoPodMo has been an absolute FAILURE. But I've inspired lots of other people to podfic! So it's a win! But personally, I have a terrible time modding and participating. Multitasking fail.

I did a 3 day novel writing project once! My friend and I did our own version one weekend because we couldn't do it Labour Day. It was pretty intense! But I did get a massive chunk of writing done, so there's that. ;D

cantarina was suggesting we make a twitter hashtag so we can tweet each other support. The offical contest hastag is #3DNC, I think we should do something like #3DNP or possivly #3DNPodfic if we want other podficcers to realize how crazy we are when they do their twitter search for Podfic :P

Well, 3 Day Novel doesn't have any limits, whatever you consider a novel is good enough. Personally, I'm going to go for something at least 10K.

ETA: I think you mean American Memorial Day? May 26-28? Or does Canadian Labor day not coincide with any American 3 day weekend.

It's Labour Day at the beginning of September (Sept 3rd this year).

It's not actually anytime close to now, I've just been going through my old emails and saw some of the fun things we were saying about it during last year's that it got me thinking about doing it again this year. (Next set of emails: pod_aware from last November. It's like a time capsule! :P)

Sweet, I can totally block that weekend off right now. It's always quiet for me too since all my friends go to Burning Man. (Although this year might be a bit different.)
