OMG the SNOW!

Ok, I'm not sure how many of you heard about that *huge-ass* storm that swept through the North Eastern US and South Central Canada, but Ottawa, where I live, was right in the middle of it, and we're still digging out. Last week, we got about 80cm of snow (that's 31.5" for the Americans on my flist), which is crazy. Worse yet, we've already had a huge amount of snow this winter, and it's not going away. So far this winter, we've had more than 4m (over 13 feet) of snow. We're something like a foot away from breaking the record for most snow.

This is what it looked like when we opened the front door. There probably would have been more snow, if it weren't for the fact that the rest of the snow is so high, it provided some protection.

These pics were from the weekend, we got more today, and none of it seems to have melted. It's really scary driving around corners, because you just have to go slow, and hope that no one's coming; there's no way you can see around the snow banks.


Also, you know how sometimes Canadians and Americans have different words for the same thing? This is the reason why Canadians have March Breaks, and not Spring Breaks, because chances are, it's not spring when we have our week long breaks from school in March.

Well, considering that Spring Break is right now (and always is), it kinda counts as the same thing. Down here, though, we usually get rained out for Easter.

But those pictures are why I want to move north, but not that far north.

Yeah, we often get rain in April too, it helps melt the snow. They're already talking about flooding for the spring. Well, not flooding exactly, but higher waters, we don't live near any large bodies of water, plus my area is on a hill, but I know last spring the Ottawa River and Rideau Canal were super high. Enough that my 12 person raft flipped when we went down the Ottawa River :S

*sigh* I miss snow!! It looks so beautiful! I've been living in Florida for almost 9yrs...but I still remember our Buffalo snow storms...I'll have to show my mom these pictures, she'll be like To cold for me!! I'd never survive if we moved back to B-Lo...lol, thanks for these!!

I totally missed snow the one year I spent in China where there wasn't much. I could never live in Florida, I'd miss it too much (plus I can't stand the heat). Actually I was one of those people telling everyone else to suck it up earlier in the winter as they complained about all the snow, but we have so much that even I am ready for it to go.

Wow, that is a pretty crazy amount of snow! In theory it looks like a lot of fun (we're lucky if we get an inch of snow over here), but in reality it's probably more annoying.

Well, I get off rather easily, since my dad does pretty much all the shovelling. It's a little dangerous to drive sometimes, and we're lucky that the big snow fall happened on the weekend, because no one could leave the house, and I would have had to miss work, but I do love snow in general.

Actually, temperature wise, it's not that bad, it's staying at around -10 all week and has been sunny. It always warms up after a snow fall, I was told why once in a garade 10 science class, but I can't remember why now.

That's crazy. Reminds me of the 93 storm here when we had HUGE mounds of snow everywhere.
