I had my first exam this morning! 8am on a Saturday morning, awesome. *sarcasm* And now I'm in the lab procrastinating on working on late labs. /o\

But enough about school! I want to talk about podfic, because apparently that's all I do anymore.

So, it's getting close to Christmas and my family has started to bug me about what I want. I'm not an easy person to buy for because there's not a lot that I want and when I do want something I generally just buy it myself. Really, what I want most for Christmas is podfic and it's not like I can ask my family for that.

But then I thought, why not? My dad used to read to me a lot when I was a kid and he's good at it. I would just have to find an appropriate (read: gen) fic and I could ask him to podfic it for me! When I mentioned this on twitter I got equal amounts of revulsion as my friends imagined their family reading them podfic and impressed kudos that I'm just that dedicated to podfic. :P

Last weekend when my mom bugged me again about what I wanted, I broached the subject with her. She kinda laughed at me but it sounded like she thought it was a good idea. Then on Thursday (after a panicked series of phone calls trying to ascertain my family members who attend Virginia Tech were ok) she asked me what Dad had said when I asked him to podfic for me.

I was kinda hoping she'd handle that side of things. :S And when I mentioned it, she said, no, I'd have to ask him myself. She then called Dad over to put him on the phone but I told her no because it's something I'd rather do in person.

I guess she mentioned it to him anyway though, because when I mentioned it to my dad yesterday he was all, "yeah sure." \o/ \o/ \o/

But then he asked me if it was my story, and how long it was through the ensuing conversation it became really clear he had no idea what he'd agreed to. When I said my mom mentioned the idea to him, I think it really was just a mention. Like, "Hey, Lindsay wants you to read her a story" which my dad misheard as "Lindsay wants you to read her story" which he interpreted as "Lindsay wants you to proofread a story she wrote."

Yeah, not quite.

When I properly explained what it was I wanted him to do he was a lot more hesitant so it may or may not happen. I think I might have to choose a different fic than the one I currently have in mind. I had wanted a Terminator gen fic (which I think my dad would actually enjoy reading) but it's almost 61K. Although the story is told from 3 POVs, so maybe if I break it down and only give him one POV and take the others it won't be as bad (she doesn't know this yet, but I want to ask nickelmountain if she'd be willing to take on one of the POVs if this happens, that way there can be a different voice for each POV). But I really really want this to happen. XD

I swear I will one day soon get back to actual updates but until that day, you're just going to have to indulge in this proud auntie. :D

We were all a little worried about how Ethan would handle having a new brother. He's really good at sharing his toys and things like that, but he's really possessive of his mother. So far, though, so good.

Unrelatedly, I think I might kind of like Stargate Universe. I can point out all the things that annoy me about it and can't quite say what it is I like but I find myself wanting to watch it...

I know I've made little whiny mentions that I want to move out of my parents house, but I think I've finally hit the end of my rope. I am so angry right now I'm crying.

God.

So I just had a fight with my family.
As I've mentioned before, I have a cat. I almost didn't move back home because of the cat, but in the end, my parents said to bring her. And, everyone fell in love with Tigger. My dad and sister adore her, and my mom, who hates cats, has been caught snuggling her. Despite all this, I'm the one who has to do all the work to take care of her. If she throws up or something (she's getting old, so it happens), they'll leave if for me to clean up, even if I'm not there when it happens and everyone else in the house is. My mom, who I think is delusional, is always harassing me to clean her littler box, because she thinks it stinks, even if I just cleaned it the other day. About the only thing I don't do is feed her, but that's just because other people seem to do it before me. I used to it all the time, but, well, Tigger loves food, and it's the fastest way to her heart.

The thing is, she's kind of loud. Especially in the morning. The thing is, normally you just leave her to it, or snag her into bed and snuggle her, and she's quiet in no time, but the rest of my family isn't patient. They got into the habit of feeding her whenever she meows in the morning, and now, it's one of the only ways to shut her up. I am not a morning person, so days I get up and let her out of my room while still asleep, other times I sleep right through it. Often it's my little sister who gets annoyed enough to go do something. But she bitches about it endlessly. God, I hate her whining more than Trigger's. She'll come into my room and sit on my bed and snuggle with my cat, which can be quite distracting, and then complain to me about how annoying she is.

Well apparently she's taken it up one level, and now my parents are blaming me for it. There is nothing I can do in the morning to stop Tigger, not really. But they're saying if I don't get her to stop they're going to have her put down.

Over my dead body.

So yes, I think it's time I moved.

Do you want to know why I download the shows I like?
It's not so I can watch them over and over again.
It's not so I can vid with them.
It's not because I hate watching commercials.
It's not because I don't want to pay for specialty channels.
It's not because I suck at remembering when shows are on, or being home at the right time.

No, it's because you can't watch TV in peace in my house. First of all, I'm damn lucky if I can get some time in front of the TV, my mom knows how to find Law and Order 24 hours a day. I'm not even joking. Then, if I *do* manage to get a chance to actually watch TV, I have to put up with everyone else in the house talking while I watch. Walking through the room, having entire conversations, and sometimes even arguments while my show is on. Plus, I don't have the best hearing, especially if there is background noise (and I'm sick right now, and my ears are blocked so it's even worse), so I have to turn it way up to be able to understand what they're saying, and then the commercials come on, blaring at twice the volume.

That is why I download all the shows I like, and watch them on my computer. I just finished trying to watch New Amsterdam, and I'm pretty sure it was a good episode, but I really can't be sure, because I missed most of it. :(

God, I want to get my own place. Anyone in Ottawa looking for a room mate?

God, my sister is such a wimp. It's the last day before my parents come home, so I went out and bought a bunch of alcohol, and told her I'd make her some drinks, she's (practically) legal!

Now though, she's not drinking any! I made 4 different kinds and she's really only taken little sips from them. I made a chocolate drink, I made a fruity drink, I made an ice cream drink, and I made a sour drink, but she's being too much of a stick in the mud. She was totally behind the idea at the LCBO, but now she's all "whaa I don't like alcohol." God.

And now she's accusing me of being an alcoholic (yeah, right) and I think she might have implied I was drunk (after one and a bit drinks? I don't think so).

Also, I'm sorry for being so spammy today, this is like my fourth post of the day....

So, I went to the first OTW chat, and really thought it was great. I was sad that the next two were at times when I was at work, so I had to miss them, but the Asian/Australian time zone one was on the weekend, so I didn't have to worry about it.

So. I got up this morning at 5:30 to go to the chat, only to find out it had been canceled since no one said they could make it. :(

In other news, we all had a huge panic attack yesterday since my pregnant sister and her husband got into a car accident yesterday. They're both ok, but they're missing a large part of the front-right side of the car. But they were able to drive it the rest of the way here. It's crazy, they live in Toronto, and drive on the 401 all the time, but they get into an accident on the 15 at 10 at night when it was statistically improbable that there would even be another car on the road! Which is actually kind of why there was the accident, since the other guy was trying to turn onto the road like there weren't any other cars on it (he was charged for failing to yield). Still, it's really going to suck trying to make the 5 hour trip home in their wrecked car.

Now, onto fandom stuff. I had done this meme a couple times before, but then the website that you had to do it through was taken down. But mercury973 just posted a new version of it, so I jumped all over it: ( Who comments the most on this journal? )

A couple things I find interesting about the results:
-Ah carr0ts1979, you're still my top commenter, even though we've hardly talked in years. I still miss you a whole lot, and you should be online more. You're totally awesome (itsjustkristen too, I miss you guys so much!).
-I was kind of surprised to see all the QaF people on this list. I suppose it only makes sense, since I was far more active in that fandom than I am in SGA, but it just seems so long ago for me (and I guess in my head this meme should only start from the last time I did it :P)
-I'm totally *not* surprised that the SGA people that made it into my top ten (maekala, you need to join paradise_city and I in one of our long ramble-y comment threads sometime :)
-It makes me kind of nostalgic, to see all the people I used to talk with all the time, but we've drifted apart. Sometimes because they've left LJ, sometimes since we've moved into different fandoms.
-I'm a bit amazed at the number of people on this list who I just have *no* idea who they are. I don't so much worry about the people who only left one comment (I'm a vidder, and have done a couple posts that have brought people from all over to comment), but some of the ones who have posted more than once (like 3 people in my top 50 who, I just don't remember).
-It also makes me a bit sad to see some of the people who gave me my fear of metafandom higher up on the list.

So, while we're talking about comments, I'd like to apologize for being a crappy commenter lately. I'm going to try harder (yeah, we'll see how long that lasts! *has no willpower*), so if I'm suddenly commenting more, it's because I've always wanted to, but have been to lazy in the past. *nods*

Also, *is excited* I'm going to a game tonight! *points to icon* With my brother-in-law, so I might actually be able to understand what's going on without the commentator's telling me! (Does that make me a bad fan?)
