paraka: Are you... White? Rich? Straight? Ignorant? Then we're the party for you! The Conservative Party of Canada. (NF-Conservative)
So, if I didn't hate MP James Moore before:

Rick Mercer, I love you. From his rant:

And then it was the government's turn to respond and for this they chose that great parliamentarian John Baird. And did John Baird get up and say why they should survive? No. Instead John Baird stood up in the House of Commons and accused Michael Ignatieff, in front of all of Canada, of owning a condominium in Toronto that, wait for it, has a balcony. So if you're one of the two million Canadians that lives in a condo, with a balcony, be warned John Baird and the Conservative party do not condone your lifestyle.

That totally made me laugh. And really what else is Canadian politics good for these days except for a laugh.

In other news, I'm catching a cold. This is crap. :(

Have you guys seen this? I find it kind of scary personally.

So, I just discovered tonight that The Pirate Party of Canada has started hosting a torrent tracker called CaPTain. I downloaded 3 albums so far: Neil Leyton, Thorny Bleeder Records and Exx-Traddition. Exx-Traddiition isn't doing much for me, but the other two have been kind of awesome so far.

I also ended up jumping onto their IRC chat. I had checked out the Pirate Party a while ago when I heard that they were coming to Canada but it looks like they've gotten a lot more info up now. I'll definitely check them out some more, especially considering the current political landscape in Canada.

I'll also keep trying to convince [profile] kronos999 that she wants to run for them in the next election :P

As a follow up to my earlier post:

While link hopping today, I ran across this. An international rally being held to support the protesters in Iran. For my local friends, there's one being held in Ottawa. I'm going out of town this weekend so won't make it here, but am hoping to maybe join the Toronto rally.

There are locations all around the world, if you've been following this at all I encourage you to check it out.

So you know how I made that post last night about having a write in today? Well this morning when I got up, I got my computer all ready for tonight (closed all internet windows but that of fic in Google Docs so there'd be no distractions) and then left for work without it!

*headdesk*

And because I was planning on typing, I didn't even bring my notebook with me. God.

On a more serious note, I haven't talked about the situation in Iran yet on my journal. Mostly because I've spent the last little while living in a media bubble (there have been H1N1 deaths in Canada, what!?) just catching the news sound bites on the radio. I knew it was going on but didn't really have a lot of information until about 2 days ago when I went on an information frenzy. Thank you so much for those on my flist providing helpful links. And to help spread the word:

i realize now i do not fear death... i fear my daughter will not be free when i die

So Thursday night, I stayed up far too late listening to those horrible radio clips from the Rob, Arnie & Dawn Show. I not only stayed up too late listening to it, but just thinking about what they said kept me up. (Link for those that don't know what I'm talking about.) I might make a post on my thoughts on this, but I don't know if I can properly articulate what I'm feeling right now.

Friday was a really long day for me. Between being tired and still being a little sick. Also, after a week of having pretty much nothing to do at work, it seemed like everything was hitting me yesterday. So when I got home around 5 and was waiting for dinner, I laid down and next think I knew it was one in the morning. I got into my PJs and tried to go back to sleep, but oddly enough, wasn't tired, since I had, you know, been asleep for 8 hours! God. So I stayed up and futzed around on the internet before falling back asleep around 5am. Which meant I slept in until 8:30, and my family was afraid I was in a coma or something since as far as they knew I had been asleep the whole time.

I haven't really been in the mood to read fic lately, so after hearing some crazy stories about it, I finally went and checked out Misha Collins Twitter. Man, he's totally awesome. While poking around I saw that Jared and Jensen also have Twitters, theirs is less awesome. Their netspeak makes me want to cry :S But because of the awesomeness of Misha Collins, I finally gave in and got myself a Twitter. I'm paraka12 over there (because someone else had paraka, damn them!) if anyone would like to follow me, although I'm not sure how much I'll remember to update it. And don't worry flist, I don't plan on using LoudTwitter over here.

So, for reasons that don't need exploring at this point, I decided to spend my evening looking up all the various federal political parties of Canada. I found a list here and have been working my way up.

Some of the parties have been pretty hit or miss (I find the Work Less Party of Canada intriguing) and some of them have horrible webpages or none at all, I feel that the Progressive Nationalist Party of Canada deserves a special mention. If you choose to click on that link, be prepared to be serenaded with "Age of Aquarius." Not only do they fail for having music embedded in their website, they also have the lyrics scrolling. In case, you know, you feel the need for sudden at home karaoke. *headdesk*

ETA: God, updating this post, because otherwise I'm totally going to be spamming my flist.

You know when I first got here in China and had internet, I was all "How did I ever spend so much time on here? There's nothing to do." Then I got back into LJ, and reading fic, and vidding and webpage building (ok those last 2 don't really use the intenet but...), and I realised that yeah, you can spend a lot of time on the internet, being busy, and then look at the time and go, "what the hell have I been doing for the last 3 hours?" And now it's worse, since there's the elections coming up.
I admit it, I'm half assed when it comes to politics. I like them, but they're so complicated that I often don't know the whole story. And after I realised I can still vote (Thanks for the help guys!) I decided that I needed to be more informed, so I've spent the last oh I don't know hour reading globeandmail.com and ctv.ca seeing where everyone stands.
It also didn't help that when I told my mom I'd be able to vote she went "Oh no!!! You'll cancel out my vote! Please think about it before voting!" Aren't parents supposed to be happy and/or proud when you take an interest in the running of your country? Of actually taking part and not letting others rule your life? So now, I'm compiling references and quotes so I can present to my mother why I'm making an informed decision (and hopefully get her to change her mind :P)

I don't know, I still think I'll go Liberal, like [livejournal.com profile] sunshineandrage said:
The way I see it, all politicians are going to cheat, steal and lie. My job is to pick the one that will cheat, steal and lie while upholding my rights and those of my friends and family.

I can't see the Conservatives ever being the right choice. Also, did they not learn from the 2004 election? Harper what were you smoking that made you think bringing up your opposition to gay marriages on the first day of the election campaine was a good idea! Even people who don't really support gay marriages are just tired of hearing about it, and you're alienating those who support it from the onset. *sighs and shakes head*

I'm sorry since I'm taking such an interest this year in politics, I'll try and keep the political ramblings at least under cut, but if there's anyone else out there who is more into Canadian politics, I'd love to hear from you, or even if you just have links to articles that'd be great.

PS I need a better Due South icon for these kinds of posts :((

So I hear there's going to be an election in a few months. What I want to know is, can I still vote even though I'm in China? I don't live all that far away from an embassy, so can I go there and vote? I know the for a local election not to long ago, Sara had someone else vote in her name...

I just feel that there's too much going on for me not to vote.
