Tech Question

Ok, I haven't even tried Googling this yet, I'll probably try that tonight, but I thought I'd ask here first.

Does anyone know how to get things from your TV onto your computer? I'm doing this special project at work, where we're doing a video. I offered to edit it, but the camera we got only lets you transfer *pictures* to your computer, not video. And now I have all this footage saved on a Mini DV, that I need to get on my computer.

Please say someone knows how to help me!

Do you have a program like WinDVD Creator or Nero on your computer? If so, and you can your mini-dvd through a dvd player, then you can tune the relevent program to your dvd player, save it to your hard-drive, and edit it. WinDVD and Nero then can burn the finished file to dvd again.

Actually, it's likely that whatever you're using to burn your dvd's can be turned to your dvd player.

Not sure how much more I can tell you on that, as I can't get to the back of my computer tower to see where my set top box/video recorder is plugged into the computer.

I tend to use WinDVD Creator, and it has an option for tuning in an external device under its Set-Up Wizard. I have my video recorder rather than my tv tuned to the computer, as my digital set top box is tuned to my video recorder.

A friend uses Nero to tune to her video recorder, so I'll find out how she tuned it in for you.

I actually found it easier to just buy a digital tv capture card for my computer, then plug the computer straight into the antenna connection. The only reason I can't do this with my set-top box is because the box is from Foxtel. So I get my Foxtel stations via the video recorder and my free digital stations straight from the computer via the digital tv card installed. The card was only about $200 australian, so it could be well worth investigating.

Sorry I can't give you more help right now, but I'll check with [livejournal.com profile] ts5000 about how she tuned Nero to an external device.

Are you able to connect the Mini DV to your TV? And do you have an "out" on the back of your TV, not just "in"? If so, I would recommend you get a video capture card for your computer that you can hook up to your TV.

I had a similar one many moons ago. It's basically doing the same thing as a capture card, but it's external.
