Numb3rs
Ok, first off, I want to wish
geeklite a belated birthday. I so meant to make this post last night, but I fell asleep. :-/ I hope you had an amazing day!
Next, I know I'm totally late on this, but I want to talk about Colby and the Janus list.
Gah! This was such an amazing episode! When I finished watching that episode I realized that that was one of the most effective season finales I've ever seen. I can only think of one other season finale like it (The Buffy one where she killed Angel). It wasn't quite a cliffhanger, because the problem was resolved, but it just left everything so broken. I can't wait until the new season starts. *whines* I'm going to be spending waaayyyy too much time thinking about this ep. Also I was really impressed by this ender, because the finale for season 2 sucked so, so much. I'm glad they were able o make this one much more interesting.
The thing is, not for one minute did I actually believe Colby's been a spy for 2 years. I have a feeling he was probably pulled in by the Americans when they discovered Dwayne, because:
1) What are the chances they both happened to work for the Chinese. I mean of all the governments out there... It would be more likely if it were a Middle Eastern government, because at least they both fought over there, but the Chinese? I mean we know how Dwayne got involved, but Colby? His only connection is Dwayne.
2) If Colby was a spy on the same side as Dwayne they had some mighty weird private conversations. And Colby's must be a pretty good actor to look so surprised and hurt over Dwayne being a traitor. I mean honestly, if they both knew (and if it were true I can't believe they wouldn't at the very least have suspicions) they might not have come right out with their secret traitor hand shake, but I think they probably would have spoken in a few more double entendre's.
3) If Dwayne *knew* that Colby was a turn coat, I think he would have turned him in when Colby cornered him. He was so upset and angry when it happened I can't believe he wouldn't lash out. I mean, I know he knew by this episode, but I bet he probably learned while imprisoned and decided to sit on it, because he was calmer and already caught, he knew he'd have to use that info to his advantage, but I doubt he'd be thinking that clearly when he was first arrested.
Edit: Obviously there are spoilers in this post and the comments for Janus List. In the comments though we now have some vague cast spoilers for season 4 (of both Numb3rs and SGA). Please don't spoil me people. I can't handle it! (Ok, I *can* but it'll piss me off). If you *are* looking for spoilers for season 4 there's a link in the comments to somewhere where you can find more info.

I found it funny, because on one of the Numb3rs lists I'm on they had this huge debate as to what was the driving force behind the show, Math or the characters. And a lot of people came out on both sides, but to me, it's totally the characters. The math is what makes Numb3rs different from other crime shows, just like CSI is about the forensics, or Law and Order SVU is about sex crimes. But the thing that makes me obsess about Numb3rs and not those other shows (both of which I watch and enjoy when I stumble across them, but won't seek out) is the characters. People love the family interactions, we grow attached to the characters. If this were just a show about math? Well I might watch it, but only if I were flicking through the channels and it was on, I certainly wouldn't arrange my schedule around making sure I can see it asap!
Notice how I can make the longest most rambley replies to the shortest of comments? I must be in a talky mood today.

That is absolutely okay. I'm glad you're in a talky mood, because I was kind of bored. But sometimes I have trouble to find the write words in English and can't write what I want to and end up writing less...
I started watching Numb3rs because it seemed different to me with the mathematical approach, but realized soon that it has wonderful characters (the Eppes family!). From the first season I especially liked the episode with Kim, because we got to know lots about Don (and we saw his appartment!). Then I saw one episode of season 2 and fell instantly in love with Colby and Megan and decided that I need to watch the whole season. Both, Megan and Colby fit so good into the team. I always liked that Megan tried to get into the math stuff while Colby always gave up after some seconds. :D
Yeah, I think this is the first time he's ever mentioned his family before.
Yes, it was!

Oh god, and as soon as you say that, I leave for hours. I'm sorry, I had to go out. And as far as the language stuff goes, all I can say is I have the utmost respect for you and your language skills, I've tried learning other languages, and I really wish I had kept my French up, because now there is *no*way* I could hold a conversation in it. I really wish I could, but sometimes I have enough trouble just with English, I totally can't handle another language. :P

I started watching it because my mom and sister fell in love with it (based mostly on the hotness factor of Charlie, which, not actually my cup of tea, but whatever). I watched the first season was kind of meh about it (I liked it but, well, I'll admit, I'm pretty much just a slasher, and it's hard for me to get into a fandom without a pairing, and the only slashable relationships in season one were Larry/Charlie, which didn't work for me at. all. Or Don/Charlie, and the whole incest thing bothered me. Funny, I seem to have gotten over that now. Oh fandom, how you hold a magnet to my moral compass.) After season 2 I got into the fandom a little, and come season three, I wasn't so deep into the fandom, but I was really interested in the show.

I was talking with someone else about that, and how it's funny since Dylan Bruno has an Engineering degree from MIT so it's probably not totally beyond the actors understanding. Meanwhile David Krumholtz talks about how he almost failed high school because he had so much trouble passing math.

By the time, I've found something to do. My friend saved me by sending me some text to proofread (That's one thing I really like to do.)

They take the language learning in Germany very seriously. Everyone has at least to learn one foreign language, normal is two, but people who go to grammar school learn three languages (crazy me learned four ^^) plus another one at university. But I only can speak English well. I can read and write Portuguese, but nothing more. And I can read most French. I like both languages a lot, but since I never use them, it's hard to not forget them.

I have to admit I started watching the show because of Charlie. He isn't that hot, but kind of cute (I have this thing for curly hair). But then I saw Don... Sigh. So hot.
And I got really obsessed with the show after I joined

Haha, that is cool, I didn't know that. But that's quite impressing. I only knew that he was a wrestler and we get to see that sometimes. I totally like it (like in the episode with the school massacre).

Oh that's good. We were just on such a role then I had to leave for an appointment, and I felt bad.

See I think in North America, we have a bit of language elitism going on. Speaking English makes you very lucky because most of the rest of the world is learning it. Don't even get me started on the French (because that is a rant that could take days).
A lot of places taking language classes is mandatory, but there so little time/effort put into the curriculum that it really doesn't leave you with workable skills. I mean as a child I was put in French Immersion, and could speak pretty fluently when I was 7, but once I was back in English there was hardly any French and my vocabulary went down, and then they do such a bad job with teaching verbs, that any inherent understanding I had of the language got so bogged down in the rules, that now I can't speak French, not a conversation at all.
That's pretty awesome about having 4 languages. I *wish* I could know more. Instead all I have is English and miniscule amounts French and Chinese.
I have to admit I started watching the show because of Charlie.
Charlie was never the reason I watched Numb3rs. I don't hate Charlie or anything, but he's not the holding factor for me. It was all about the hotness that was Don. I've really been getting into the fandom since I've started friending people I've met through

That's the problem I have with my Portuguese. We learned lots of grammar rules (I'm really good in it), but never really learned to speak it. Same with French in school. And with English. I couldn't speak a word when I left school. I learned everything through the internet.
I'm really glad I found so many nice Numb3rs fans here, because none of my orginal friends (I knew them from other places in the internet) watch it. It's so much more fun when you have someone to talk about it.
I just watched episodes 3.01 and 3.02 and in those two episodes, Don was extremely hot.

Yeah you really have to use something to keep it. I'm relearning a bit of French now that I'm working in a bilingual environment. But I'll never be fluent again.

Yeah I can understand that. I started off in the Queer as Folk fandom, and a lot of the fans from there migrated into the SGA fandom so it was really nice, but Numb3rs is a much smaller fandom. I probably wouldn't be nearly as into Numb3rs though if it weren't for the fandom and people on my flist whom I can talk to about it. Actually, I've done more talking about Numb3rs this weekend then I have about just about any other show.

I've planned to do so for some time now, but never got around to actually do it. But I always watch the French tv channel when I'm at my sister's place. I unfortunately don't have the channel. I love listening to French and I can understand some bits and follow it.
English isn't much of a foreign language anymore. It's more like a second language. There are days I write more in English than in German. Sometimes I even think in English instead of German.
I started in the Friends-fandom, where I met wonderful people (most of them I already met in person multiple times) and consider them as real friends. One of them made me watch SGA (it wasn't that hard for her to make me like it) and I made another friend watch it. So I have at least two people to talk about it.

I watch many tv shows, but I'm not really active in fandoms. I once in a while write a review in my lj and talk about it with my friends (sometimes in their journals). But I nearly never go to other places (communities or fora) to discuss it.

f I don't answer anymore, then I had to switch off the pc,
That's ok, I'm supposed to be working on a vid right now, it's due the 31st and I have 1 clip on the time line :S Hope you weather the storm ok!
no subject
What other shows are on your list?
The weather got a bit better. At least good enough that I could switch on the tv again. :D

I think, at the moment, there's only one show on my list that I'm planning to watch: Supernatural. But only because my friend says I should and she's sending me the episodes. And I'd like to catch up with Criminal Minds.
I think I've seen half of the shows that are on your list. The ones from the UK are really amazing, Dexter is great and I loved Farscape.
no subject
That's good to know that you liked Farscape, I watched most of the first season and while I didn't hate it, I didn't really feel compelled to watch more. I'm hoping it gets better.
(Also, sorry for taking so long to reply, but: Stanley Cup Playoffs.)

Icehockey?
Farscape got better every season. At least in my opinion.
Half of my playlist is watching Supernatural. As soon as I've watched some episodes, I'll probably write a post about it.

Btw, I only managed to write down three quotes (and I watched ten episodes) and two of them were from Megan. I suck at this. :D

Well it doesn't have to just be from Colby. I have to make a vid this week, but maybe next week I can sit down and re-watch them all, and we can work together on just a big list of funny quotes. :)

When I was in Brazil, I had the same problem. People wouldn't believe me that I can't speak Portuguese either. ;D
I think I will be finished with re-watching all episodes by Tuesday night. But since I'm doing other stuff on the pc while watching, I miss most of the funny quotes anyway.

Accents are a funny thing, some people can know all the vocab all the grammar rules, spend years speaking the language and have a horrible accent, while others (like me) can know nothing really about the language but still be able to fake it if reading.
no subject
Years of practice. :D I only watch new episodes without doing anything.
I think I'm one of the persons that always will have a terrible accent.
I'm off for a short while. I'm scared. ^^
